Rust and Corrosion
Rust & Corrosion, Rust Inhibitor, Corrosion Inhibitor, Rust Protection
Rust is a general or commercial word /term used for a various types of iron oxides. In Chemical terms Rust is noting but iron oxide, & physical-chemical transformation of iron into iron oxide is rusting. Rusting occurs or happens when oxygen comes in long-term contact with iron or an alloy that contains iron, like steel. The amount & rate of rusting varies on various parameters like atmospheric conditions, contact area, amount & type of water, contact chemicals or gases, salts & many more. The main catalyst of the reaction is water. The main catalyst in this reaction is water. Iron or steel metals structures may appear solid, but when water molecules come in contact with the surface of metal it penetrate the microscopic pits and cracks in any exposed metal. The hydrogen atoms present in water can combine with other elements to form acids, which further increases the rate of rusting. Hence salt water cause more rusting than plane water, salty environment is more corrosive than dry hence it is observed export consignments of metals, components, steel structures, and steel components are rusted in very short span of transits. To prevent the surface from rust industries are using various rust & corrosion inhibitors
